How To Keep Healthy At Work

The workplace can not only be an unhealthy place for your mind, but it is usually bad for your physical health as well! When you spend so much time at work, you're not usually focusing on preparing well-balanced meals or choosing healthy choices when going out for lunch. Anything that is convenient seems to be the most popular decision. Don't fall prey to the unhealthy choices like vending machines and the food at company parties.

"Wealthy nations face the staggering cost of chronic diseases and obesity. Neighborhood intervention isn't working. Providing healthy food at work is the best way to get people to eat at least one healthy meal a day", says Christopher Wanjek, the author of Food at Work: Workplace solutions for malnutrition, obesity and chronic diseases. Unfortunately, most workplaces are not going to, and so you have to take matters into your own hands. Take hold of your diet and health by following these tips.

Home Meals - Instead of purchasing your lunch at a restaurant or fast food place during your break, bring a meal you've prepared from home instead! Bring a healthy green salad and some grilled chicken for an easy, healthy meal. You can also store away some snacks like nuts and dried (or fresh) fruits to eat throughout the day as well.

If You Have To Eat Out... - If you decide on eating out with a few other coworkers, don't be too afraid. There is a way to eat out and eat healthily. Most of us happen to overeat at a restaurant, but if you enter the establishment with an awareness, you won't have that problem. Instead of ordering an entree, consider ordering an appetizer instead, and follow the healthier choices instead. If you order a salad, ask for the dressing on the side. Simple things like just being aware will make a big difference on the way you eat out.

Staying Calm - Stress is a huge factor when it comes to working in a not-so-ideal environment, and most of us end up heading towards food when we want to comfort ourselves and help deal with the stress. If ever you begin to feel overwhelmed, take some time off or take a walk, call and vent to a friend, or even do some deep breathing exercises. A change of environment, even for only ten minutes, can help alleviate feeling of anxiety.

Healthy Drinking - No, not alcohol! Drinks like sodas, coffee, and sports drinks, usually used in the morning or afternoons to help keep you awake, are filled with acidity and end up dehydrating you along with filling you up with caffeine. With pure, alkaline water, you can keep yourself awake and active in your mind and body.

Unfortunately, most people do not have a pure water source and aren't sure how to find them. Luckily for those looking, there is a way to stay hydrated and help themselves keep healthy in the workplace. The Wonder Water Story will help you get that very source of water in your own home! Get started today! Providing quality nutrition reviews online.

Chocolate, Truly a Healthy Treat

There is a relatively new nutritional item in town and it really looks like a good one! This "new" item has just been recently added to the good guys of healthy eating.

Nutritionist actually state that one serving of this "new" substance has more antioxidant capacity than blueberries or cranberries. This substance may in fact slow down the build-up of dental plaque and its properties do not end there.

Research has determined that this "new" nutritional goodie has its effects on the cardiovascular system by causing the arteries to become more elastic ie. flexible.

By now you are beginning to wonder what is this "new" substance? Believe it or not, it is none other than our old friend, chocolate!
Chocolate has been given such a bad rap over the years, it is about time we give it due respect.

For a long time chocolates were believed to be one of many things we ingest that caused some damage to our bodies.
While all along, cocoa and dark chocolate, was packing a powerful antioxidant punch. Playing a role in helping our bodies stay healthy.

There are a number of myths in regards to chocolate that we will try to eliminate. Keep in mind that old belief are sometime hard to let go, in spite of good research and studies.

Myth number 1: Chocolate will cause dental carries (tooth decay).

False: Chocolates contain flavonol antioxidants, this substance along with others actually slow down the development of dental plaque.

Myth number 2: Chocolates cause acne.

False: In spite numerous studies, including the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association and its British counterpart, it appears large amounts of chocolate have not caused an increase in the severity of acne.

Myth number 3: Allergies to chocolate is common.

False: There are more American adults and children that have a diagnosed food allergy, more than 90 percent are allergic to such things as nuts, eggs, milk, shellfish etc. Therefore, chocolate food allergy are rare. Remember, only one to two percent of adults have a food allergy and five to eight percent of children. However, one or more of the mentioned food type could be present in a chocolate product therefore it is wise to read labels very carefully.

So the next time you have an appetite for a chocolate treat. Relax, as in all things, in moderation chocolate, cakes and cookies are treats that can be healthy too. Enjoy!

Don't Only Decide on Meals Depending on Their Flavor

Consuming food is definitely a habit which no person may easily remove. Eating is much more than only a habit. It's an essential behavior to be sure that our body gets all the required nutrition to remain healthy. You need to find a way to supply your system with the nutrients that are generally associated with them to ensure you won't develop a nutrient insufficiency if there are several food items you don't want to eat. If you're not alert, lacking a specific vitamin or two can result in plenty of disorders. Way too much of something is bad; therefore you must also watch out for your consumption of foods.

If you would have a look all around, the most prevalent types of foods would be the salty ones as well as the sweet ones. Greasy foods tend to be salty, and there are also saltines and fish to consider. Anything that is added with excessive salt could cause hard for the body. Should you be someone who loves devouring muffins and cookies of all sizes and patterns, then sweet food in most cases could be your weak spot. Sometimes even main dishes may also be sweet, much like chocolates of all sorts.

What can you get through far too much salty ingredients? Illnesses on the urinary system have to be something to think about. You could also acquire kidney stones in case you don't get plenty of fluids to wash the salt from your system. Eliminating these stones at a later date can be extremely difficult, agonizing, and problematic, so in case you can stop this you definitely need to.

What can you be prepared for when you take in sugary foods, on the other hand? Could it be safe? Could it be really beneficial? Not at all. Consuming an excessive amount of sugar puts you at risk of getting diabetes. In case the sweet taste in the food is due to the extra sugar substitute in it, you'll see various other health illnesses to take into consideration. You could develop heart disease, high levels of cholesterol, and elevated glucose levels plus a wide variety of other issues.

According to a specific site that promotes health, sugar substitutes may have LBM as one side effect and since it changes the normal flow of your bowels, it can cause long lasting damage to your excretory system. Flatulence can even be an additional side-effect. It goes without saying that individuals may be more careful with regards to using sugar given that there are these problems to take into account, right?

Interestingly, lots of people crave sugar a lot more than they long for other items due to the addictive property found in it. If they have been consuming it for so very long, they struggle to shy away from all things sweet due to that attribute. You may scare them with facts about just how harmful sugar is, although they can just find a sugar substitute that looks healthy in the beginning. If you do not want the food which you take in to become the reason you get unwell, only use healthy replacements like naturally sweet foods present almost everywhere. Before you'll add low calorie sweeteners in your food, it is better to know more details on them by reading and being attentive to news.

Impartial reviews of natural health treatments along with cures that are in-depth and science-based which had been proven to be both effective and safe through good research implementing numerous double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled experiments are provided by Natural Health Sherpa. There are lots of charlatans which have been regrettably developing unproven, false claims inside the natural health subject, therefore our objective is generally to identify exactly what actually works and separate fiction from fact. Painless Ways to Reduce Calories

Many people in the modern world find themselves in a situation where they would like to lose some weight, and it turns out that losing weight may be far easier than you may think. A large part of weight management comes down to calories in vs calories out, in other worlds you either have to burn more calories or consume less, yet many people who don't seem to eat that much are overweight and others who eat all the time are not. A contributing factor to this is that most people are unaware of how two very similar foods can have a considerable difference in calories.

There are around 3500 calories in a single pound of body fat, so if you are consuming 3500 calories a week less than your body is burning you will lose weight, that is 500 calories a day. The same is true for gaining weight, 100 calories a day too much adds up to nearly a pound of fat a month, that's 12 pounds a year, looking at it like that its easy to see how so many people manage to become overweight. The good news is there are dozens of ways to substitute one food option for another and cutting up to a hundred calories out of your diet per change, implementing just 2-3 of these changes a day can have a dramatic affect on your body weight.

Here are 15 painless ways to reduce your calorie intake by around 100 calories per serving:

1. Eating tin tuna packed in water instead of tin tuna packed in oil.

2. Replace regular soda with diet soda.

3. Trim the fat off your meat before you cook it.

4. Dip your chips in salsa instead of guacamole.

5. Instead of eating garlic bread made with butter, spread baked garlic cloves on French bread.

6. Cut the peanut butter on your sandwich from 2 tablespoons to 1 tablespoon.

7. Snack on oven-baked potato chips instead of regular potato chips.

8. Grill a cheese sandwich with nonstick cooking spray instead of margarine.

9. Use fat-free sour cream instead of regular sour cream.

10. Thicken sauces with corn flour mixed with a small amount of water instead of a roux.

11. Roast chicken instead of frying.

12. switch to low-fat milk.

13. Eat pretzel sticks instead of dry-roasted peanuts.

14. Eat poached eggs instead of fried eggs.

15. Order smoothies instead of milkshakes.

Organic Food Benefits: Why You Should Eat Organic

We all want to learn how to get a healthy life.

Organic foods will help cleanse and detoxify your body from harmful chemicals. When you stop eating foods that are tainted with pesticides and other chemicals, your body will expel the current and remaining toxins from your body. This means that your body should be clean, chemical free, and pesticide free after a specific period of time. For that reason, if you decide to start eating organic foods, try to stay doing so.

Another one of the many benefits to eating organic foods is the better quality of the food. In fact, many individuals claim that they taste much better. One reason why farmers claim to use potentially harmful pesticides and chemicals is to kill bacteria. While this does sound like a good idea, the bacteria that can be present when fruits and vegetables grow aren't necessarily bad. In fact, some say that it helps foods grow in a certain way. This, apparently, in turn helps to produce better results, which should, produce better tasting food, but does it? Test it for yourself. Buy your usual brand of any fruit or vegetable and buy one that is organic. Taste it, does it taste the same? You be the judge.

When it comes to organic foods and their benefits, you will find an unlimited number of benefits. For starters, did you know that they can help the environment? They can and this is a point that many do not take into consideration at first. Farmers, who put pesticides in their fields and on their foods, are not only putting consumers at risk, but the environment at risk as well. Many of the pesticides and other chemicals currently being used are responsible for damaging the soil as well as negatively affecting nearby areas. By eating organic foods, you are providing a small, yet still helping hand to help protect the environment.

Another unique benefit to eating organic that many individuals do not think of right away is the assistance that is provided to organic farmers and organic food manufacturers. Right now, the number of organic food manufacturers is quite small and many are small to medium sized businesses. The same can be said for farmers. The decision for many farmers and companies to go organic can be difficult and risky. Therefore, by purchasing organic foods, especially fresh fruits and vegetables, you can take comfort in knowing that you are helping many small to medium sized farmers and organic food company's stay in business.

Foods that are genetically engineered do not have to be labeled, and there are areas across the country labeled cancer zones, because the chemicals and pesticides sprayed on the produce are also spread out into the air.

Everyone benefits when you buy whole organic produce. You create a healthier lifestyle for yourself and your family. Support the farmers, support small businesses, and help the environment.

The Dangers of Emotional Eating

We all go through rough times in our lives. Whether it's stress from work or sadness over an unwanted major life change, we can find ourselves feeling downtrodden or even depressed with little recourse to make ourselves feel better. When that's the case, many of us may end up turning to food to help us to feel better. Learn more about emotional eating, how it can derail your weight loss goals, and what you can do to stop the cycle.

Signs You May Be Emotionally Eating

There are many different ways in which we emotionally eat. There's the obvious cliché of sitting down with a pint of ice cream after a breakup and polishing it off, but there are other, more subtle ways we eat more due to our emotions. Basically, if you ever eat when you are not hungry, there's a strong likelihood that you are eating because you are subconsciously trying to deal with some kind of emotion. Boredom is a prime example of this: how often do you get snacky when you spend the afternoon zoned out in front of the TV? Our brains crave stimulation, and television is actually a pretty poor stimulator because our bodies are not involved in any way. We bring our bodies in to the mix by grabbing some chips or popcorn to snack on-but this packs on the pounds too.

Anxiety and stress are notable causes of emotional eating as well. We often give ourselves excuses to cheat on our healthy eating style when we're in a time of duress. If you find yourself turning more often to mac and cheese when the boss yelled at you that day or to a cookie or brownie as a "treat" for surviving a rough meeting, you're probably letting your emotions dictate your palate.

It All Adds Up

If you're eating emotionally, you're subversively derailing your weight loss goals and overall health. We tend to go for foods that are higher in sugars, salts, and fats when we are eating to ease our emotions, and these are the exact types of food we want to avoid when we are trying to get to a healthier body state. It's time to snap out of it! You don't need all of those extra calories, and nobody needs love handles.

Figure It Out

The best way to curb emotional eating is to figure out exactly what is causing you to turn to food and fight that specific cause. If you're eating out of boredom, get up and do something that excites you instead of watching another rerun. If stress has you sneaking sweets, consider taking some time for yourself to help you unwind. If it's sadness, seek out other people to talk to about your pain-true friends will gladly lend a shoulder and an ear when you need a good cry, and great therapists are available for deeper traumas.

Stop It

With any of the causes of emotional eating, exercise is a good solution to boost your helpful hormones and increase your brain's stimulation. Drink a glass of water, do a few squats, and see if you are still hungry before you eat. Be mindful of what you put in your body and when. It doesn't hurt to schedule meals if you're going through a particularly rough spot.

Another great tool towards lowering your desire to emotionally eat is an all natural weight loss supplement. These supplements often contain natural appetite suppressants that can help control your cravings, let you go between meals without feeling as much of an urge to snack, and help you towards your weight loss goals. Obviously, natural weight loss supplements work best when combined with a healthy diet and regular exercise, but they may also be the help you need to stop emotionally eating and get your weight loss back on track.

Healthy Summer for Kids

Helping your children stay healthy in the summer starts by setting a good example. In the summer, schedules change and routines tend to fall by the wayside. Establishing a summer routine with flexibility will allow children to have fun, yet remain healthy. One activity most kids enjoy is planting a garden. Growing their own food makes kids more likely to eat items they might not otherwise.

Involve your kids in the process from start to finish. Have them help prepare the soil, plant the seeds, pick the ripened vegetables and help cook them. A garden helps get kids involved in eating right, but there are other ways to encourage good nutrition. Involve them in planning a menu, grocery shopping and cooking. Allow them to help make food decisions.

You do not have to ban children from television, computers or video games to get them to exercise. Instead, limit the amount of time they spend doing them. Most kids are active by nature. Insist that they spend time outside, and before you know it, they will be exercising naturally. Many communities have splash pads or swimming pools. Water activities are a great way for kids to exercise and socialize with their friends.

Most cities have sports activities in the summer for kids. Allow you children to participate in one of them. It will provide good exercise, allow them to see their friends and teaches them the importance of teamwork. Churches, the YMCA and other youth organizations usually offer a variety of summer activities. However, if your children do not like sports, do not force them to participate. Take part in a marathon or benefit walk giving your children a sense of helping others as they exercise.

If your area does not provide a water activity, consider investing in a swimming pool. The expense is well worth the exercise they will get. Even a sprinkler in the yard that they can play in will encourage exercising. Exercise as a family. You can put a new spin on things by creating your own games. Frisbee, soccer, golf, badminton, jump rope and dancing are good starting points. Turn a hiking trip into a treasure hunt to add some intrigue.

All children should have assigned chores around the house. Try to make sure your child's task creates an opportunity for exercise. Some chores that will provide them with exercise is walking the dog, cleaning the flower beds, putting up the laundry, vacuuming, and sweeping are only a few of the chores that will get their body moving.

Children need proper rest in the summer to remain healthy. It is a parent's responsibility to see that they get it. There should still be an approximate bedtime. While there is nothing wrong with having a flexible summer routine, the proper amount of rest is necessary. Children seldom go to bed voluntarily, so when you see your child is over tired re-adjust the summer schedule. Keep your kids healthy by choosing to live a healthy lifestyle.

Fish Oil Omega-3 Nutritional Health Benefits For Your Heart And More

Fish is one of the healthiest foods that you can have in your nutritional health diet. It's a lean source of protein, low in fat and it's also a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids. This is especially true of fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines and tuna. Coldwater fish sources are best, especially those caught from the wild, rather than raised in fish farms.

According to the American Heart Association, the omega-3 in fish oil can do wonders for the body. This is because it helps the cell membranes become more fluid like, which allows the cells in the human body to become more efficient in regenerating and detoxifying itself. It also aids the body in producing different hormones that are able to fight off disease, and provide an overall protective benefit for the entire cardiovascular system of the person.

For those who have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, doctors often recommend taking 2000 mg of fish oil omega-3 per day, and even more would be a safe amount. A healthy adult can take 1000 mg of fish oil omega-3 each day to maintain overall good health, eliminate excess body inflammation, and to help prevent cardiovascular disease.

Aside from the heart protective benefits of fish oil omega-3, it can also improve the functioning of the heart. Patients who take fish oil supplements have been shown to reduce the incidence of irregular heartbeats or arrhythmia. This can be a fatal condition, since irregular heartbeats have been linked to sudden death.

It can also lower high blood pressure levels. Doctors who gave their patients statins or high blood pressure medication, and combined it with fish oil omega-3 supplements, saw a significant improvement compared to patients who took the statins only. Lipid levels are improved, thereby lowering overall blood pressure levels.

Fish oil omega-3 DHA supplements can be taken to help prevent heart attacks and strokes. This is because fish oil DHA has very strong anti-inflammatory properties, because of aiding the body in producing eicosanoids and beneficial prostaglandins, while also being able to decrease the rate of growth of plaque in the arteries or atherosclerotic plaque.

Also, fish oil omega-3 has been shown to help lower triglyceride levels. For those with high levels, it is recommended to take as much as 3000 mg to 4000 mg a day to lower triglyceride levels to a more normal level. Taken at this high dosage levels, doctors have seen an improvement in patients with a decrease in triglyceride levels by as much as 20 to 50 percent.

The American Heart Association recommends that you consume at least two servings of fish in a given week. This should help provide the amounts of omega-3 that the normal body needs in order to maintain its proper functions. That's the equivalent of a 3.5 ounce serving of fish, which is also the same as about ¾ cup can of flaked tuna.

There are some concerns that fish may contain contaminants, or maybe you just don't like the taste of fish. But if you are going to start eating a lot more fish, then purchase wild-caught fish instead of farmed-fish, because the quality of the nutrients is far better. And most importantly, don't ruin the omega-3 benefits from eating fish by frying it, or 'smothering' it with a bad fat cream sauce.

Numerous studies and research have shown that the benefits of omega-3 DHA for your overall health, and especially for your brain and heart health are so great that it would be beneficial to increase the minimum amount with an omega-3 DHA anti-inflammatory supplement.

So, increase the amount of fish you eat, especially if it is prepared in a nutritionally health way and is a protein replacement for a lot of red meat that includes unhealthy fats.

And to really maximize the cardiovascular and overall health benefits from fish oil, take a fish oil omega-3 anti-inflammatory supplement each day. The supplement that I currently take is 1200mg of fish oil, which is further broken down into 1000mg of omega-3 DHA + EPA, and I take 3 of these each day.

Besides fish oil omega-3, there are many natural nutritional health benefits that come from a lifestyle of an anti-inflammatory diet high in raw foods, and that is enhanced with plenty of exercise and fitness. Providing quality nutrition reviews online.

Discover Cantaloupe Nutrition Facts

The cantaloupe is what I like to call a 'peripheral fruit', and by this I mean it is one that is there and available, but not many people actually use it as much as they could, for various reasons. The majority of the time it is because this melon-like fruit is just not as popular as other household fruits such as the banana or the apple.

The aim of this article is to provide you with a bit of extra information on the cantaloupe, or 'rockmelon', as it is known in some areas. Not only am I going to highlight some amazing nutrition facts about the cantaloupe, but also show you that even as far as fruits go, this delicious example is low in calories.

What is a cantaloupe?

If you are one of the many people out there who doesn't know what a cantaloupe is, and believe me you are not alone, then it is a type of melon that is greeny orange on the outside, with a texture that looks a bit like a net. They come in all different sizes and weights, from as small as just a pound, to as heavy as over ten pounds. Inside the hard outer rind is a bright orange color edible flesh, and the very middle is where you will see the seeds, much like other melons such as the watermelon.

How many calories in a cantaloupe?

I am going to start off by explaining how many calories are in a cantaloupe. Fruits have a positive stigma about them in that they are healthy and good for you, well of course it is not different when it comes to the cantaloupe. A huge positive about fruits are that they are generally low in calories, hugely so in comparison to fatty and processed foods that many of us are responsible for eating every day.

When you find a fruit that in comparison to the rest is low in calories, then you know you are onto something good.

This is the case when it comes to the cantaloupe, as for every ounce of cantaloupe that you eat, you are only consuming 10 calories, which is nothing when it comes to the total number of calories that you should be eating each day.

If you were to eat a 1/8 wedge of cantaloupe from a large fruit weighing around 6 oz including the rind, you are still only consuming around 35 cantaloupe calories.

Putting it into perspective there are some 100 calories in a medium sized banana, and 65 calories in a medium sized orange.

As if the fact that there are so few calories inside a cantaloupe is not reason enough to eat it, there are loads of cantaloupe nutrition facts that are also going to act as strong encouragement to include this in your diet. These are covered below.

Amazing cantaloupe nutrition facts

In order for your body to carry on working as it should, it is vital that you keep it well nourished. The best way to do this is ensure that you are eating a balanced diet, and including lot's of fresh foods in it such as fruits and vegetables. Each fruit and vegetable, along with everything you eat, have various nutritional properties that can help to keep the levels of necessary vitamins and minerals in your body topped up to a safe level. When it comes to cantaloupe nutrition this is no different.

One amazing nutritional benefit of the cantaloupe is that in just one 3.5 oz serving it provides you with almost half of the vitamin C that you need for the entire day, and a fifth of the total vitamin A that your body requires. On top of that you are also gaining the following nutrients, that can strongly contribute to your body's levels of them:

Beta Carotene

Vitamin B1 (Thiamine)

Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)

Vitamin B3 (Niacin)

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid)

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B9

Vitamin E

Vitamin K

Calcium

Iron

Magnesium

Phosphorous

Potassium

Zinc

Protein

Fat

Dietary Fiber

Sugars

Carbohydrates

Water

Each of the above nutrients plays a role, or in most cases various roles, in keeping your body fit and healthy, and making sure all of the processes that take place in order for you to stay alive, tick along nicely.

Eating fruits like the cantaloupe are a brilliant way to keep your calorie count down, and your nutritional levels up.

I hope that this article has provided some inspiration to check out the cantaloupe next time you head to your local supermarket, store or market. If you keep your eyes peeled for it you cannot miss it's uique appearance.

You will find that the above cantaloupe nutrition facts are similar to an array of other fresh fruits and vegetables, so the more of them you include in your diet, the better.

Genetically-Modified Foods, What You Need to Know

Humans have been experimenting with ways to grow more food, grow food that is disease-resistant, food that is tastier/leaner/"better" in some way for centuries. Even "basic" concepts like plant and animal breeding have been occurring long before our time. What is happening now, however, is so far beyond what is healthy, natural, or sustainable for plants and animals, for the Earth itself, or for humans. Read on:

Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are organisms that have had specific changes introduced into their DNA, either through the insertion or deletion of genes. It began with agriculture in the early 1990s with a tomato that was modified to ripen without softening, by Calgene, later a subsidiary of Monsanto.

Monsanto is the organization who is at the forefront of producing GMOs. Their biggest explanation in modified foods is to make them more disease-resistant, such as with Hawaiian papaya, of which 80% is GMO in the U.S. The other explanation is to make the crop more resistant to pesticides and herbicides that Monsanto itself produces. These are called Round-Up Ready products.

Currently, the 4 most GMOs in the United States are soy, canola, cotton, and corn, with soy, cotton, and canola at a rate of 93% production in the U.S.

So, you might ask yourself, what's the big deal? Isn't there a food scarcity issue in the world? Isn't it helpful to have found ways to produce more food? Critics would argue that the problem with food scarcity in the world is not too-little production but problems with distribution and food policy. Therefore, genetically modifying foods would have no real impact on the real issue.

The concern with GMOs is, first of all, safety. There is so little research, long-term research, into modifying food in this way, that essentially we are left to a major corporation to deem these products as safe, even though they are the ones profiting handsomely from their sale! Seems fishy, if you ask me. Why consume a "food" you know so little about in terms of safety? Is that a risk you're willing to take with yourself, with your family?

The second main issue is that, in contrast to the European Union, there is no mandatory labeling of GMOs in this country. Imagine walking into a restaurant and being handed a meal that you aren't sure of its contents and not being allowed to ask questions. You'd be furious! There are ingredient labels and nutrition facts on the side of every product you can buy today... but not GMO labeling. Why not, if there's nothing to hide?

Another main concern is that of cross-pollination. It is impossible to 100% separate GM crops from non-GMOs, either those being grown in the field or during production. Think your non-GMO is actually free of GMOs? Don't be so sure.

There's also the ethical issue here. It might start with the "lowly" soybean or corn plant, but where does it end? There have been talks about GM salmon. If that is ever approved, truly where will it stop? Pigs? Chickens? Cows? There comes a time when you have to ask yourself if this is just going too far, if there isn't a better solution.

The main issue, for me, comes down to truth-in-labelling. I understand the need to creatively address food scarcity concerns in this world. I don't, however, appreciate my right to know taken away from me. We all deserve to know what's in our food! It's our basic life source. Demand your rights.

When it comes to well known varieties of honey, Acacia Honey is considered to have one of the loveliest taste and appearance. It is a delightful organic honey that has its own unique identification, geography effects, characteristics and benefits.

For decades, honey has been known to be a natural sweetener substance produced by honey bees. However, although this sweet treat is considered to be a delicacy, still studies have shown that is also has medicinal properties as well as thought to be a good skin regimen. What Most Impacts Juicing Benefits?

Juicing benefits are many but they are seriously impacted by the quality of your juice. The degree to which you enjoy the benefits of juicing is determined by the degree of the quality of your juice production or how it is processed.

The purpose of juicing is: what's in it for me? Or, the end results realized. One of many benefits of juicing is more energy. Juice taken from fresh raw vegetables will energize you as nothing else can, naturally and without adverse side affects, it can be phenomenal!

Another benefit of juicing is better health! It's amazing what proper juicing will do for your health. I could relate story after story of cures or greatly reduced symptoms all due to juicing. In less than 3 weeks I lowered my blood pressure from recommended prescription treatment to normal levels. Many report healing from such diseases as diabetes, heart problems and even cancer all as a result of proper juicing.

In 8 weeks I lost 20 pounds. Oh... that is one of those non-adverse side affects of juicing! While many juice for weight control my purpose was to become healthier. Proper juicing will return your weight to where it should be, based on your body, all done... naturally.

Juicing benefits are far too many for me to list here but my point is that the degree to which these benefits are enjoyed via juicing is dependent upon the degree of your juice quality.

There are at least 3 things that affect juice quality.

The first factor is the source of your juice. When you buy juice from the grocery store you may be starting on the right path but very far from enjoying the results spoken of above. These fruit and vegetable juices, energy drinks and flavored waters are prepared for long shelf life. That means they have been processed in such a way as to destroy most of the enzymes and other sensitive nutrients they once may have had.

The very best source of high quality juice is made in your kitchen at home. There you can start with fresh raw vegetables producing the very best juice for your body. So the second factor that affects your juice quality is the raw foods used, mainly vegetables.

The fresher the better so pick your produce carefully and pick the best. Then, clean it and store it properly when you get it home. For example: after cleaning, roll your leafy greens in paper towels to keep them moist and fresh longer. Clean your celery and then place the top in a shower cap and the other end in the bottom of a plastic bottle, with water, set it upright in your refrigerator door shelf. When possible, buy organic produce to avoid pesticides and other unwanted chemicals.

The third item that affects juice quality and therefore the degree to which you experience the juicing benefits available is your Juicer. No, all Juicers are not the same! In fact they differ in producing juice quality as much as they vary in price. There are 3 general categories of Juicers. In order of low to high production of juice quality they are Centrifugal, Masticating and Twin Gear Juicers.

The Centrifugal Juicer

The process of acquiring juice is from a fast spinning basket in which raw foods are cut and shredded. The juice is separated from the pulp with the pulp deposited into an attached container and the juice through a spout to your glass. Drink immediately and enjoy!

The Masticating Juicer

These Juicers typically have slower moving parts (which is good) and grates raw vegetables resulting in less oxidation of the juice nutrients. You can store your juice up to 72 hours versus 24 hours for most centrifugal Juicers. Plus, much easier clean-up.

The Twin Gear Juicer

The two gears crush raw foods rather than cutting them producing even less oxidation and therefore higher juice quality in terms of more valued enzymes and sensitive nutrients. This Juicer will also handle leafy greens very well which is not the case with either of the other two designs.

Regardless of which Juicer you have, or choose, you'll be head and shoulders above with any of these Juicers in terms of the food quality you eat now versus the juice they produce. However, if you are fighting any serious disease, sickness or ailment the better the quality juice you drink the greater the juicing benefit and possible healing you will realize.

Six Excellent Non-Nut Sources Of Protein

Artichoke - This vegetable is packed with nutrients such as the all-important vitamin C, and vitamin A. Additionally they are loaded with biotin, niacin, thiamine, and potassium. Dietary fiber is important in diet and artichokes are a good source for this. There is myriad of other health benefits in this vegetable and a medium-sized artichoke provides 10 mg. of protein.

Potato - Low in calories and fat-free, potatoes are another source of nutrients important in maintaining a healthy diet. Along with one average sized potato providing about 5 grams of fiber, they also contain vitamin C. It is recommended to eat potatoes skin and all therefore proper washing is important. A cautionary reminder that the green stems and leaves are poisonous. Depending on the size a potato can provide approximately 5 mg. of protein.

Green Peas - These little tasty green vegetables are very nutritious containing vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin K, and B-complex. Additionally, green peas provide anti-oxidants flavonoids like zeaxanthin and carotenes. One half cup serving will provide 4 mg. of protein.

Spinach - This wonderful vegetable deserves its own book on its nutritional value. Here again is another source of dietary fiber as well as vitamin C, vitamin A, magnesium, folic acid, and lutein. Lutein is associated with the prevention of such things as cataract formation and macular degeneration. Eating healthy amounts of this vegetable is a good choice and a half-cup serving provides 3 mg. of protein.

Avocado - Great for helping to lower cholesterol, avocados also contain the carotenoid lutein. There is more such as, vitamins C, E, and K, along with potassium, sodium, calcium, and copper. All these excellent sources of nutrition while tasting great and providing 2.5 mg. of protein in a half-cup serving.

Broccoli - Already known to be a great source of calcium, broccoli high in vitamin C and contains potassium among others nutrients. However, it is better to eat it raw in that preparation by steaming or boiling reduces the nutrient value. A half-cup serving provides 2.5 of protein.

Without a doubt the vegetarian and vegan diets are the healthiest for many reasons. Ranging from improving brain function to lowering blood pressure, and increasing energy to reducing weight, a healthy diet can and does improve overall quality of life for many. It is important to remember to carefully plan ahead and do research prior to making any radical changes to a diet, especially if it is changing from eating massive amounts of fast-food to a vegan diet of raw fruits and vegetables. Nevertheless, such a change if done gradually and carefully will only bring improved wellness. Providing quality nutrition reviews online.

Preserve Your Produce, Preserve Your Health and Money

Learning how to properly clean produce is important, even if you're grown it yourself or purchase organic.

If purchasing it from a supermarket or farmer's market, as many as twenty people may have touched your produce before you do. Plus, why would you want to eat dirty, gritty lettuce or berries? Not to mention the importance of maintaining good health and avoiding food-borne illnesses.

My recommendations are simple. Using good old-fashioned water is plenty. There's no need to use any of the commercial washes on the market. They haven't been proven to be any more effective than water for removing pesticide residue so aren't worth the added price. Use a steady stream of water and your hands to clean the produce, using an inexpensive vegetable brush on harder items, like potatoes and carrots. Even items that have peels you don't plan to eat, like bananas and oranges, give them a rinse, anyways. If there are any bacteria present on the rind, your hands or a knife might contaminate the edible portion.

There are more individual suggestions on cleaning each type of produce item, but these are some basic recommendations to start with.

Also, there are individual ways to properly store each produce item, but for now, here are a handful of helpful methods for the items generally found in people's kitchens. If you're interested in more individual methods, email me. First of all, make sure your refrigerator is kept cold enough, under 40 degrees F. Also, leave enough space in your refrigerator for the cold air to circulate. If your fridge is too cramped, your food will spoil faster. Garlic, onions, and potatoes need to be stored in a cool, dark pantry and can keep for up to four months.

Berries are best left unwashed in their original container in the refrigerator. Portion out the amount you want in one sitting and wash and eat. Strawberries in particular are very perishable and should be eaten within 48-72 hours.

Lettuce leaves should be refrigerated unwashed in a plastic bag in the vegetable drawer. A plastic bag from the grocery store is sufficient. Lettuce will keep for up to five days. Do not store lettuce with melons, apples, pears, bananas, peaches, plums, and apricots, as they emit the gas ethylene and they will cause the lettuce to turn brown.

Herbs can be notoriously tricky to keep from wilting. Keep them in an airtight container wrapped in a damp paper towel for up to ten days. Or, store washed and sealed in a plastic bag, in the freezer for up to a month. They'll defrost immediately when need to be cooked.

I also strongly encourage labeling and dating foods before you store them.

Health Habits: Java's No Jive

Get The NEWSS, And Coffee-Up To Beat Cancer

Not unlike many Americans, I love coffee. Maybe I learned to love it during my Army days, when coffee was the one warm thing you could almost always get. When I poured a cup of particularly-bitter mess-hall coffee onto the grass outside my barracks, though, and noted that no grass ever grew in that spot again, I decided to quit it for a few months. Eventually, I decided to go back to coffee... but to drink better stuff.

I used to drink lots of coffee, all day and into the evening, fully "decorated" with sugar and creamer. I was young, and though I probably wasn't doing my body a lot of favors, I got away with it. A colleague told me I'd learn to drink it black if I ever forced myself to do so for awhile... turns out, she was right. When I had gone to decaf with only real cream, and then tried to go back to a sugary cup of the hard stuff, I did find it didn't taste good to me.

I do think caffeine helps create cravings for sugar and processed carbs, which are bad for you... so I think it's a good idea to limit the caffeine. But I still drink coffee, lots of it, all day and into the evening - some caffeinated, some decaf.

If you're in business for yourself, or work just about any job in pursuit of your leadership mission, you know coffee's a big deal at work. People work better and more happily when the coffee pot's handy. Cut the joe, like some of my employers have at times tried to do, and you'll find yourself with a grumpy workforce. Not only that, new medical research reveals great benefits from coffee... so keep the pot on!

According to a recent report from Harvard Medical School, the more coffee an adult drinks, the lower the risk seems to be for developing a common type of skin cancer: "BCC," or "basal cell carcinoma." In the Harvard study, women who drank at least three cups of coffee daily had a one-fifth lower chance of developing BCC, compared to those who had less than a cup of joe a month. For men, the benefit was reduced, but the guys who had at least three cups a day still had a nine percent lower risk of BCC.

If you're worried about the caffeine, but don't like decaf, here's a suggestion: make sure you drink a half-liter of water for every cup of coffee. It'll make you want less coffee, and it'll dilute what you consume. But don't put away the mug.

You need to drink at least two liters of water every day, anyway, as part of the five key daily health habits I call The NEWSS: Nutrition, Exercise, Water, Sleep, and Supplements. If you're renewing your health habits, start with these five. Cut the garbage "convenience" food out of your diet, and nourish your body with fresh, real food. Get at least three good workouts every week - six is better for most people. Get your two liters of water every day, and your eight hours of sleep every night. And make sure you're getting at least one good daily multi-nutrient supplement to give your body what it can't otherwise get with your busy business lifestyle.

When it comes to coffee, it turns out the cup is at least half full. It warms your belly, and now, it seems it also helps protect your hide! Keep up the good work, and feel free to enjoy a hot cup of java while you're at it.

Enjoy Eating Berries Without Getting Sick

How do berries affect the body? There are numerous investigations being carried out by researchers in the health industry to pinpoint these effects. Some of the studies have found that women who ate strawberries and blueberries often were not as likely to experience memory loss. These studies compared the heavy berry eaters to women who did not eat berries as often. "This is pretty compelling evidence to suggest that berries do appear to have memory benefits," says researcher Elizabeth E. Devore, ScD, instructor in medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.

Some berries have good fatty acids; are high in vitamin content; carry large amounts of protein; and also have high amounts of antioxidants. All of these have positive effects for the body. The effects range from body detoxification to slow down, or prevention, of memory loss.

This is great news, but before you decide to go on a nature hunt and pick your own berries, be aware that some berries look pretty, smell good, but may be very poisonous. Take a look at the list.

List of Some Poisonous Berries

The Baneberry, also called Bugbane, has a waxy, shiny appearance and is either red or white in color. The poisonous berry contains cardiogenic toxins which affect the cardiac muscle. This could result in a heart attack or death. It is normally found in Nova Scotia.
The Holly berry is a beautiful red and is often used to decorate homes during the Christmas season. Unfortunately, the berry may cause vomiting and diarrhea when ingested. They originated in France.
The Yew berry may be red or blue. The alkaloid chemical in the plant can be fatal and cause the heart to stop. Ironically, some birds eat them without harm. The berry is located in numerous places throughout the world.
NOTE: If you are marooned and in a life or death situation, make sure you do not swallow the poisonous seeds from the Yew if you have to eat them.
The Pokeberry, also called Pokeweed, or Pokebush, is dark purple and is poisonous to humans. Eating too many may affect your breathing and lead to death. Birds are also able to ingest them but you cannot. The Pokeberry is located in North and South America, as well as East Asia, and New Zealand.
The Jerusalem cherry is poisonous and is often confused with the cherry tomatoes. Some symptoms include hallucination, diarrhea, and can include a coma when eaten. The berry is believed to be native to Peru and Ecuador; but due to bird migration and redistribution, it is found in many countries. It has been relocated as far as Australia.

Most berries have some type of defensive mechanism. These mechanisms help the species survive. Whether you peel the skin, remove the seed, or cook the berries, you should know how to prepare your berries before you eat them. The best thing to do before picking and eating berries is to get a reference book and select the correct berries.

As previously mentioned, there are berries which have positive effects on the body and there are those which have negative effects. Make sure you select the correct berry so you do not get sick. Stay safe!

For more information on the positive effects of berries, read "Berries and Nutrition"

or read more about nutrition at Best Strength Training Routines.

What Is a Vegan?

What is a vegan is a common question among uninformed individuals. If you are aspiring to adapt a vegetarian diet either because of health or economic reasons, you should be aware of the food restrictions, benefits and risks involved. You should never begin the plan without knowing the basics of a vegan diet. Better yet, you must consult your health care provider about the plan to know the best diet to follow.

When you are looking for the answer on what is a vegan, you will come across the term veganism. Veganism refers to the type of diet that excludes meat, poultry products and other animal derived ingredients. They also do not eat any food products that use animal during the processing. Strict vegans eat only grains, beans, vegetables and fruits. Some people think that choices are very limited but when you begin combining these, you will come up with endless recipes to keep your meal exciting.

After your knowledge about what is a vegan, you may be attracted to adapt the veganism diet. However, more than just a burst of the moment, being vegan is a lifestyle commitment. There are several reasons why people opt to adapt it but majority of them is due to ethical reasons involving animal rights. So, if you have the same conviction, going on a pure vegetable and fruit diet is highly commendable.

How to become a vegan?

Okay, so you're done with your concept of what is a vegan. The next thing you consider is how to start the plan. According to long-term vegans, the way to be successful with the plan is to do it gradually. Try excluding meat products during the start and slowly eliminate dairy products and eggs in your diet. To be successful, you should think of your short-term and long-term goals and the reasons why you have to take this type of diet.

Veganism and Weight Loss

For most weight conscious individuals, weight loss is a good effect of veganism. Based on the knowledge on what is a vegan, people who adapt the plan achieved their desired weight within the first month. This is because the foods included in their list are mostly low in calories but dense in nutrients. Imagine eliminating the different sources of fats in your diet. This is a sure way to get rid of the excess fats around your problem areas.

Health Risks

If you think that veganism is all about the good effects, wait until you see the disadvantages. Your search on what is a vegan should also come with the health risks. According to experts, strict vegans are very prone to nutritional deficiencies. Osteoporosis and iron deficiency anemia are common problems among adults while slow growth and rickets are seen among children. In order to avoid this, you should take supplements like multivitamins to get the calcium and other minerals lacking in your diet.

Can You Be a Healthy Eater or Is That an Oxymoron?

Some people would say that being healthy and being a meat-eater cannot coexist. Meat causes cancer, heart disease, strokes. Its saturated fat content leads to high-cholesterol and to being overweight. Plus, it's cruel to other living creatures. Have you heard statements like these and others before?

According to Dr. T. Colin Campbell in his comprehensive book, The China Study, "People who ate the most animal-based foods got the most chronic disease... People who ate the most plant-based foods were the healthiest and tended to avoid chronic disease. These results could not be ignored."

While I agree with Dr. Campbell on some points, I would argue that some people respond well to more carbohydrate, plant-based diets, yet others others fair far better on more protein-dense diets.

First of all, I do agree with Dr. Campbell that everyone would do well to greatly increase the amount of fresh, raw, plant-based foods in their diets, namely vegetables and fruits, but also, beans, nuts, and seeds.

Secondly, I would encourage you to experiment for yourself with first a vegetarian diet and then an omnivorous diet. On which do you have more energy, digest your food more efficiently (meaning you don't experience symptoms after eating, such as gas, cramping, diarrhea, or constipation), and feel satisfied for longer?

Dr. Joseph Mercola, who has the World's #1 Natural Health Website, mercola.com, states on his website that, "... the data... do not show statistically significant correlations between animal protein consumption and disease such as cancer at all. On the contrary. It would seem that sugar and carbohydrates are correlated with cancer - not animal protein. In addition, the data indicate that fat is negatively correlated with cancer mortality, which again contradicts the claim that meat is harmful. ( http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/09/08/china-study.aspx )."

To sum that up, it's sugar and simple carbohydrates that lead to most major illnesses and obesity in this country, not meat. If you respond well to a protein-dense diet, then that's what works best for your body. Keep reading to learn what type of protein to consume to ensure you're eating in a healthy and environmentally friendly way. If you respond well to a more carbohydrate-based diet, namely vegetables, fruits, and grains, then that's the way to go for you! But listen to your own body. It has the innate wisdom that no doctor can give you.

Lastly, I do believe that if you are a meat eater, you must take great pains to eat as high-quality meat as you can afford. Cows are significantly over- and mis-used in this country. They are pumped full of hormones to fatten up more quickly and live in crowded, stressful conditions. They are fed poor-quality diets of grains that aren't fit for their systems. Cows are ruminants - animals with special stomachs designed for digesting grass, not grain - so they get sick often, leading to the "need" for giving cows loads of antibiotics. If you are what you eat, then you are full of hormones, stress, sickness, and antibiotics, IF you continue to eat non-organic meats.

Check online to help you locate hormone- and antibiotic-free and/or organic meat in your area. One last thing to note is that I don't think it's healthy nor sustainable (for the environment or your wallet) to eat large amounts of meat at every meal, if you choose to be a meat-eater. Use meat as more of a garnish with your meal and fill up your plate with more vegetables. During your completely meatless meals, turn to plant-based protein sources like grains, such as quiona and farro, beans, and nuts and seeds. Yum!

Are Health Food Stores That Healthy?

If you're like more and more Americans, you're trying your hardest to improve your health and wellness. That's a great step in the right direction. A lot of people think that by shopping at their local health food store they can make grand strides. But is it all it's cracked up to be? Is the extra cost worth it and is everything in a health food store more expensive? Also, is everything truly healthy?

I do think it's fantastic and helpful to spend more of one's time and food budget at a health food store. I believe that you can have increased access to local, organic produce; clean meats and fish; and the ability to buy items in bulk, a great money-saver! I lead Walking Nutrition Tours in my area to teach people about this exactly!

But you're correct in noting that just because it's a health food store, it does not mean everything is an ideal food or worth the extra cost.

As with your traditional supermarket, I would still encourage you to first of all, shop the periphery. The outside sections of the stores generally are where you'll find the produce, meats, and dairy products, the items I encourage you spend your money on. It's in the center aisles that you'll more often find the packaged foods, replete with added sweeteners, rancid oils, and genetically modified ingredients.

That means my second recommendation is to read labels. Consider granola. Once thought to the be the health food of the hippie generation of the 1960s and 70s, it is now a ubiquitous item, containing added sugar and refined oils. This stands true wherever you purchase it. I encourage you to scan the label of the granola you might pick up in the health food store next time you shop, or those organic cookies you might love. I can almost guarantee they'll have added sugar.  Essentially, a packaged product is a processed food, no matter what name you call it or where you buy it. Buying cookies or potato chips at a health food store doesn't make them much healthier than buying them elsewhere.

A way to save money is to, again, read labels: price labels. A box of regular pasta is a box of pasta, purchasing it at a health food store does not make it healthier in any way. Or, when it comes to produce, you do have increased access to organic and local items. But, if you choose to buy conventional produce or frozen produce, there's no difference in quality between a traditional supermarket and your health food store, so go with the cheaper item.

My basic recommendations are shop the periphery, read labels, and get comfortable cooking more at home instead of relying on packaged foods. These suggestions will lead to improved health and money saved.

What Makes Acai Berry a Superfood?

It is a surprise to many that the world's most nutritious superfood is a little known berry found on a specific species of palm tree in the Amazon. Most people have never even heard of the acai berry superfood (pronounced Ah-sigh-ee), but after carefully studying its nutritional benefits, nutrition scientists suggest this is likely the most powerful food in the world!

Harvested directly from Brazilian rainforests, this little berry tastes like a powerful mix of berries and chocolate. Many people describe it as a blend between a raspberry and a grape. The pigment that gives the berry its royal purple hue also gives it its status as the number one superfood on the market. The pigment is full of vital antioxidants, dietary fiber, and fatty acids that your body needs to remove toxins and promote better health.

Antioxidants

Your body's molecules have a tendency to go through a process called oxidation, which releases something known as free radicals into your body. These free radicals then cause chain reactions in cells that can lead to cell damage or death. Antioxidants are molecules that inhibit the oxidation process that creates free radicals. Antioxidant supplements have been shown to prevent cancer, heart disease, and even altitude sickness. The acai berry has ten times more antioxidants than red wine and over thirty times more antioxidants than red wine. Antioxidants have proven results in stopping and reversing the aging process.

Dietary Benefits

The fruit also contains high levels of dietary fiber that are known to improve digestive functioning and make you more regular. The berries also contain important digestive enzymes and co-factors that feed your digestive system's micro-flora and improve your body's nutrient absorption and digestion processes. With higher nutrient absorption due to drinking acai juice, many study subjects reported higher energy levels and greater awareness.

Essential Fatty Acids

Essential fatty acids that are rich in monounsaturated fat have been proven for the cardiovascular system due to their ability to improve blood circulation and strengthen the heart muscle. Over time plaque builds up on the walls of your arteries due to unhealthy diet or lifestyle choices. Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids lower the levels of bad cholesterol in the body that contributes to this plaque build up. Acai is an incredible source of these essential acids, and also have been shown to increase the amount of good lipids found in your blood stream.

Forms of Acai Berry

Acai berries have been a major part of native Brazilian diets for centuries, traditionally being served with tapioca and honey, or as a flavor of ice cream. Outside of Brazil, fresh acai berry can be very hard if not impossible to find because the very has a very short shelf life. For this reason, the pulp is usually extracted from the berries and frozen, freeze-dried or air-dried. The pulp is then used to make various drink mixes, yogurts, and juices.

Frequently, acai can be found as a freeze-dried dietary supplement that allows many to get all of the nutritional benefits of acai, without the trouble of tracking down fresh berries or paying a premium for acai juice. The juice form will usually cost around forty US dollars per bottle.

When most people begin to incorporate acai berry supplements into their diet, they report a greater harmony between their minds and bodies. Largely due to the digestive enzymes ability to increase nutrient absorption, and the detoxifying effect of the antioxidants, many users report claim the supplement gives them greater energy and greater focus and clarity of mind. By tapping into this incredible superfood you too can balance your nervous system, stabilizing your mood and making you more productive in your daily life.

4 Tips On Creating Your Healthy Eating Plan

To be healthy, the first and most important steps are to accept that you need to make changes to your present lifestyle and eating habits. Once you understand that, the next step is to come out with an action plan to follow.

This action plan should be based upon your personal fitness goals.

Implementing this plan is an important step in your journey towards fitness and health.

By making your goals concrete will help you to be more motivated and sticking to your plan.

Create your personal healthy eating plan by following the 4 tips given below;

1. Be realistic in setting your goals

Do not make the common mistake of setting unreasonable and difficult goals for yourself. Once you are unable to reach your goals, you will feel discouraged and might even give up on your diet plan.

Be more realistic when setting up your goals but that does not mean making it easy for yourself.

Example:

If you work long hours, you cannot expect to cook healthy meals all the time.

When creating your goals, think about all this details. Decide exactly how much weight and amount of fat you want to lose. Make them reasonable, neither too easy to achieve nor too difficult to attain.

It is difficult to accurately determine your body fat percentage without using expensive medical equipment, it is better to monitor your change in body fat or muscle with measurements.

Before you start your healthy eating and exercising plan, record the measurements of your waist, hips, thigh and upper arm. And check them again every two weeks or so to monitor your progress.

It is also difficult to accurately determine your caloric needs without using medical equipment. To be sure how much you should be consuming, consult a professional or your personal trainer.

2. Proceed gradually

After you have developed your goals, implement the changes gradually.

Example:

Your goal is to stop your habit of eating chocolate with munching on carrots or bananas. But do not cut off your chocolate completely from the first day of your diet plan.

Think on how to gradually reduce the amount of chocolates you eat. This will prevent you from your irresistible cravings.

Eating foods that are both healthy and yummy, encourage you to follow through with your plan. Prevents mindless eating by taking your time when eating and enjoy every bite of the food you eat, helps you realize when you are full.

3. Be honest to yourself

Whenever you concede to your cravings, be honest about it.

Admit that you have eaten things you were trying to avoid and make the effort to make up for it in your next meal. Your integrity helps to cover up for times when you conceded to your craving in foods you had decided not to eat.

It can help you to monitor what you eat everyday and be accountable to your diet plan can also help you to stay on course with your diet.

Five Health Benefits of Coco Sugar

If you are seeking for a new type of sweetener that does not involve sugarcane and the health risks that come with it, then you might want to try coconut sugar. Coconut sugar is a by product of the flowers of the coconut tree. It is an organic and all natural sweetener that is diabetes friendly. Raw coco sugar is dark brown in color, just like brown sugar or muscovado sugar from cane. However, it does not taste like the regular sugar that we are used to it's not too sweet. It tastes like cane sugar, but with a twist. The sugar particles may look rough but it is soft and velvety to the touch and melts easily in the mouth. Coconut sugar is considered as the healthiest sweetener substitute because of the numerous health benefits that it offers. Let me share to you some of them.

1. It has a low glycemic index. Several tests conducted revealed that coco sugar has a low glycemic index of 35 as compared to that of cane sugar's glycemic index which is 50. Glycemic index is the glucose response of an individual from food relative to a standard glucose solution. Simply put, a glycemic index is the numeric value given to a food to represent how fast it turns to sugar. Foods with low glycemic indices can help balance and maintain health conditions such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease and high cholesterol. Low glycemic index foods can also prevent hypoglycemia which is a health condition that causes the body to overproduce insulin leaving you feeling weak and faint.

2. It is rich in vitamins and minerals. Coco sugar contains lots of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, copper, iron and many more. These minerals are necessary for many body functions. It also contains all 12 of the B vitamins which are also essential for our bodies to function well. These vitamins help maintain muscle tone, promote good cellular health and help strengthen the body's defense system.

3. It is rich in amino acids. Did you know that coco sugar contains 16 out of the 20 amino acids? These amino acids are all essential for human metabolism.

4. It can help you lose weight. A tablespoon of coco sugar only contain 10 calories. Yes, only 10. This makes coco sugar the ideal sweetener for weight watches and health buffs. With coco sugar, you can get the sweetness sans the guilt.

5. It is 100% natural and free from additives and preservatives. Coco sugar is derived from the coconut sap by boiling it in an open container where it is then cooled and solidified.

Does Sugar Make You Fat?

Most people who are overweight and have poor health conditions do not know the answer to the question does sugar make you fat and this is the big reason their health is suffering. Parents and school administrations are battling against having sugar placed in schools as they make up a large portions of a child's caloric consumption for the day. Not only is sugar very high in calories it'll also spike your blood sugar levels which will set off a chain reaction of hormonal releases causing your body to store fat. Yes it's true that sugar does not contain any fat but the truth is that sugar is probably worse for you than eating fat.

Our bodies have actually evolved to eat sweet things as an advantage as it would lead people to sweet and ripe fruits which would serve as a lot of calories. Nowadays it's much easier to develop a sugar addiction and food is much more bountiful today than it was thousands of years ago and these big amounts of calories are going to cause trouble. When you read the back of a can of soda you'll see the amount of sugar in it and then multiply that number by 4 and this is how many empty calories you're going to be putting into your body.

There have been research reports which have found a link between high levels of unhealthy fats in the body and sugar consumption. There are other sources of sugar that find their way into our food such as high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, honey, maple syrup and molasses. Food companies try to spin the health benefits on these different types of sugars but when you break things down they are all sugar and they all must be minimized in the diet. And unfortunately zero calories artificial sweeteners are also not the answers as many scientists are now worrying they may cause cancer and other unhealthy consequences.

Even though sugar may occur naturally in fruits the sugar you find in processed foods such as donuts and cupcakes is the sugar that is going to really make you fat. Most people who are overweight should try to eliminate their sugar consumption to the very minimal but if you are already considered healthy then most doctors agree that moderation is fine. If consuming fruit you should limit the ones that are high in fructose, which is another form of sugar, such as oranges, bananas and pears.

Yes is the simply answer to the question if sugar makes you fat and most people should avoid it or strictly limit it in their diets. People quickly develop sugar addictions which will not only cause them to get fat but it'll also cause other health problems such as high HDL cholesterol and other serious side effects. Most people think of fruit juice as a healthy option but the truth is they are also high in sugar content and should be thus limited as well. It's going to be pretty difficult for some people to kick their sugar addiction but if you truly care about your health and image it will be absolutely necessary.

The author who wrote this article answering the question does sugar make you fat has also written for other health publications as well. The Benefits of a Customized Weight Loss Plan

A customized weight loss plan or eating plan takes into account your body fat, weight, daily exercise, activity and a few other variables. There is an equation to figure out how many calories you need based off of the above variables and your specific goals. This gives you a realistic timeline of how long it will take based off of x number of calories. By measuring body fat we can tell how a person is doing on the diet. There are four ways that show us how you are doing:

1. if you eat too many calories, you will increase fat and increase muscle.

2.if you do not eat enough calories, you will decrease fat and decrease muscle.

3. if you do not eat enough protein, you will increase fat and decrease muscle.

4. if you eat a perfect meal plan, you will decrease fat and increase muscle.

We want a perfect meal plan. To decrease fat and increase muscle. As we increase muscle it will in burn more fat. The only accurate way you can truly tell if you are eating a perfect meal plan is to measure your body fat.

Where can you get customized weight loss plans? I would look for a certified fitness nutrition specialist, dietician or nutritionist to give you a plan. Some nutrition stores, healthy smoothie stores, and gyms have certified fitness nutrition specialists.

Ask questions? Let's face it, diets are hard! I've been in the field for over 15 years and I still struggle with perfecting my diet. You will make mistakes... it's all part of the process. Do not get frustrated. For example: Most custom plans are based off of exchanges.

Please explain the exchanges?

Foods are grouped into - starches, fruits, milk, meat, and fats. Your nutrition specialist or dietitian will recommend a certain number of daily exchanges from each food group based on your individual needs. They will decide the best way to spread the exchanges throughout the day. This will help you keep your blood sugar level within your target range.

Carbohydrates have 15g per exchange

Protein have 7g per exchange

Fats have 5g per exchange

Can I eat more fruit or have wine?

Within each group, you'll see how much you can eat of various foods for the same amount of calories, carbohydrates and other nutrients. You can exchange or trade foods within a group because they're similar in nutrient content and the manner in which they affect your blood sugar. For example, milk, fruit, and starches are all considered carbohydrates and can be interchanged. So if I wanted to exchange wine for a starch that is fine.

These diets are not just to lose weight, they are meant to follow for a lifetime. It's OK to delve off every once in awhile, but every day is a new day to start over. Start again and again. Good luck!

About The Importance of Eating Healthily

Have you ever taken your time to consider why it is so important to follow a healthy diet? Have you ever thought about why we are constantly advised about reducing the amount of salt we take daily, choosing the fats we eat wisely and making sure we eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables? Most people think that this healthy eating campaign is part of the campaign to fight against severe overweight and obesity but, even though this may be a partial reason, the truth is that healthy eating helps us be healthier individuals.

Disease Prevention
Eating healthily helps us prevent many diseases that are related to poor vitamin levels, a lack of proteins, a weak muscle and bone structure to support the weight of our body, high bad cholesterol levels, high blood pressure and so on. People that take care of the way in which they feed their organisms make sure they eat a well balanced and nutritious diet that makes them strong, flexible and healthy individuals.

In fact, doctors and other health experts strongly believe that those individuals who enjoy a varied and well balanced menu regularly are better prepared to avoid certain diseases.

Physical Well-Being
In addition, avoiding eating processed and packed foods on a daily basis has a long term impact on our health. It allows our body to manage and process conservatives and other potentially harmful substances that turn into toxins in our organism in a more efficient manner. As a result, our digestive system finds it easier not to get clogged and absorb nutrients more effectively.

Healthy Body Weight
Needless to say, eating healthily also helps you keep your weight under control. It teaches you what you should eat so that you do not need to deprive yourself completely from certain types of food in order not to gain unnecessary weight. Nutritionists are convinced of the fact that knowing what to eat and in which amounts definitely teaches you to put yourself some kind of limit to the amount of biscuits and chocolates and fried foods you eat.

What is more, it allows you to avoid following those restrictive diet plans that dramatically reduce your daily calorie intake or deprive you from including certain nutrients in your menu such as fats or carbohydrates.

Eating Healthily Improves Your Energy Levels
Busy people should also know that eating healthily helps them boost their energy levels and allows them to perform really better not only at work but also whenever they are doing any of their regular activities.

I'm a health expert for Cleanse Revolution oriented mainly on dieting alternatives for people who are not only interested in losing weight but also in leading a healthy life. Get Off The Sugar Craving Merry-Go-Round And Start Losing Weight!

Did you know that the artificial sweeteners of low-cal and sugar-free food can increase your desire to eat? Artificial sweeteners tell the taste buds that the sugar-free food is sweet and satisfying, letting the brain believe that it is also nutritious. Ah, but when the food goes through your system, it does NOT provide nutrition that the body needs to work properly. As a result, the brain urges you to eat. This vicious cycle can only be broken by eliminating artificial sweeteners from your diet.

It is also questionable whether artificial sweeteners might damage your liver by creating an insulin surge as sugar would. How much diet soda do you drink in a day? Could this practice be creating problems with your liver?

If your weight has been a problem for you, like a merry-go-round going nowhere but up and down and never getting to your desired weight, perhaps using artificial sweeteners is the problem.

Is it diet sodas, light products, sugar-free food or hidden ingredients that you could be eating without being aware of the consequences? You must start reading labels on all your foods. You will be surprised to see the amount of added artificial sweeteners or sugar in snacks, even snacks targeted for children. Read all ingredient lists so you can avoid saccharin (Sweet N Low), aspartame (NutraSweet), and sucralose (Splenda).

Getting free of artificial sweeteners is not easy. To add to your journey of weight loss, you also should stop eating sugar! What a double whammy! But the cravings for sweets, whether sugar or artificial sweeteners, can be nearly overcome in about 72 hours of going "cold turkey"- without either! Your cravings will drastically diminish!

If you are addicted to sodas and drinks sweetened with sugar or artificial sweeteners, there are natural products that can help wean you off. The herb stevia is extraordinarily sweet but has almost no calories. Typically, when one eats or drinks food with lots of sugar, like a non-diet soda, it affects the insulin level, creating a rush of energy. Afterwards you are hit by fatigue and cravings for more sugar. Stevia, however, does not affect insulin or blood sugar levels.

There are several recipes for drinks and even baked food made with this wonderful herb. By the way, Stevia has been used safely for hundreds of years.

You can avoid the sugar added to processed fruit drinks by squeezing your own fresh juice from apples, oranges, pineapples, ginger, etc. Just remember to drink fresh squeezed juice soon after juicing to get the full benefit of the fruit.

Action steps you can take:

Read labels for sugar content and note where the sugar is listed in the ingredients (ingredients are listed by volume in the drink, from high to low).
Avoid all foods that contain artificial sweeteners and sugar
Avoid all sweetened beverages, including fruit juices that are not freshly squeezed
Make sure to use stevia for baking and sweetening needs.
